Charles is Of Counsel in Morrison Cohen’s Real Estate Department where his practice focuses on landlord and tenant leasing and ownership issues, other transactions, and general representation.

Charles is well known in the real estate community and regularly represents both landlords and tenants in leasing and leasing related transactions. A lawyer’s lawyer, he has represented many law firms in regard to their space needs including Wachtell Lipton, Thatcher Proffitt, Latham & Watkins, Fragoman Del Rey, Weitz & Luxenberg and Emmet Marvin. Charles has represented landlords and tenants in various anchor leases and routinely represents either of the parties in lease and other transactions of all sizes. Because the relationship between landlords and tenants is so basic and intimate, questions often arise as to the rights and responsibilities of the parties in a wide range of scenarios. Charles regularly serves as advisor to and advocate for clients in these matters. Charles' parties and properties have included office and retail tenancies, ground and net leases, garages, and industrial and warehouse transactions. The properties involved, although generally in the tri-state area, have also included properties and tenancies all over the country.

Prior to joining Morrison Cohen in 2000, Charles was for 30 years with the firm of Bachner, Tally, where he became a partner and then a Managing Partner. He began his career as a corporate and securities lawyer, and also practiced as a litigator, before concentrating as a real estate attorney. Before this, Charles served for two years in the U.S. Army as an artillery officer, rising to the rank of Captain and serving for a year as a Staff Judge Advocate.
