Law360 Profiles Morrison Cohen’s New Partner Genny Ngai, Former EDNY Prosecutor

Partner Genny Ngai, who recently joined Morrison Cohen’s White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement Practice after serving as a prosecutor with the Eastern District of New York, was profiled in Law360 on January 9, 2025.

The article highlighted Genny’s many successes at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including helping to secure the conviction of Manuel Chang, the former Mozambique finance minister, for his role in a $2 billion international fraud, bribery and money laundering scheme. She was also on the team that pursued charges against German national Horst Jicha, a founder of the cryptocurrency firm USI Tech, whom the government accuses of running a $150 million multilevel marketing scheme.

When contemplating her next career move, Genny told Law360, “I wanted to be involved with the development of emerging technology issues in the private sector. I was particularly drawn to Morrison Cohen's Digital Assets practice led by Jason Gottlieb, whose team is at the forefront of cutting-edge digital assets issues, and I'm eager to contribute my expertise to helping clients understand the complex climate, including criminal conduct.”

Previously a litigator with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Genny will now advise clients on federal and state criminal matters and complex commercial disputes, with a focus on emerging technology issues.

“From a macro level, I am looking forward to working with others at Morrison Cohen to build a premier white collar defense practice,” Genny said. “On a micro level, I want to help companies understand and navigate the criminal justice system, should they ever find themselves at the opposite end of a government inquiry. Clients, especially those operating in crypto, [artificial intelligence], and cutting-edge technologies, need help understanding how to operate, navigate, and avoid civil and criminal liability, considering the lack of any clear or consistent regulations.”
