Y. David Scharf Participates in Career Development Q&A at NYU Abu Dhabi

Y. David Scharf participated in a Q&A session with Mariët Westermann, vice chancellor of New York University Abu Dhabi, live at the NYU AD campus on November 1, 2022. The “VC Roundtable,” arranged through the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the Career Development Center, was an open forum in which NYU AD students considering a career in law had the opportunity to engage and ask questions.

The event, which was also attended by faculty and members of the university’s administration, followed smaller group meetings with faculty from the law, arts and sciences and history departments and with NYU AD alum who are now part of the University’s administration.

The conversation between David, who is an NYU alum, and Vice Chancellor Westermann focused on the practice of law and the future of the legal profession. They discussed David’s own career journey, the importance of mentorship and how he finds harmony between work and outside interests such as family and philanthropy. They also spoke about current issues in law, including U.S. constitutional law, intellectual property, digital assets and cryptocurrency.

“I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to speak with Vice Chancellor Westermann and so many bright and engaged students at NYU AD,” said David. “With exceptional students like these interested in careers in law, I am very encouraged about the future of our profession, and about the future of our society in general.”
