David Scherl focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, private investment funds and general company representation. David served as the firm's chair and managing partner from 2002 through 2019.
David regularly represents private equity, venture, growth capital and leveraged buyout funds in connection with their fundraising/formation, investments, acquisitions, dispositions and other activities; mezzanine debt providers and cash flow and asset based senior lending institutions in connection with their loan transactions and related activities; investment and merchant banks in a variety of matters including public and private securities offerings underwritten or placed by such institutions; hedge and other alternative asset investment funds in connection with their fundraising/formation and investment activities; and businesses in connection with their strategic acquisitions, dispositions, mergers and securities offerings.
He has considerable experience in the financing of development and growth stage companies in a variety of different industries, representing companies seeking traditional and non-traditional sources of financing. David also advises clients in connection with a wide range of commercial relationships and arrangements, including joint venture, distribution, licensing, partnership, and employment arrangements.
David began his career at Clifford Chance (US), LLP, where he practiced until he joined Morrison Cohen in 1991. He left Morrison Cohen to become partner and chief operating officer at J. H. Whitney & Co., an investment manager of private equity, mezzanine debt, public stock hedge, and high yield bond and bank loan structured product funds, and rejoined Morrison Cohen in 2001.
