Richard Hong Quoted in Press About Atkins SEC Nomination
Partner Richard Hong has been quoted in several news outlets regarding President-elect Donald Trump's pick of Washington lawyer Paul Atkins to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission. The choice of Atkins, a respected former SEC official with strong ties to the financial sectors, is seen as a win for Wall Street. However, critics express concerns that his lenient approach and pro-crypto stance could negatively impact investors.
Richard, who served as an SEC trial lawyer when Atkins was commissioner, expressed his belief that Atkins is a great pick for regulatory reform and will bring the SEC back to normalcy. “He is a wickedly smart and conservative lawyer, and he understands that SEC’s regulation by enforcement cannot continue – whether in crypto or elsewhere in the SEC space,” Richard told Financial Advisor. “And while he understands what needs to be done under Trump 2.0, he grew up with the SEC and recognizes the important purposes of the agency, which I believe will bring some relief to the SEC staff and the defense bar.”
