Jason Gottlieb Quoted in Wall Street Journal on Impact of SEC Reassignments on Crypto Lawsuits
Partner Jason Gottlieb was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article entitled “SEC Ousts Top Litigator Who Battled with Crypto Giants.” The article discussed recent SEC staffing changes, which are expected to lead to settlements or dismissals of crypto lawsuits and resolve the agency’s ongoing conflict with the crypto market. Jason specifically addressed the reassignment of Jorge Tenreiro, the SEC’s former head of litigation who had overseen key lawsuits against crypto exchanges that shaped the SEC’s authority over the market.
Jason, who chairs Morrison Cohen’s Digital Assets and White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement Practices, said that while he disagrees with the legal strategy that Tenreiro was asked to execute – achieving regulation of crypto through the courts – Tenreiro was a principled adversary. “He’s a hell of a good litigator and a bulldog, but an ethical bulldog,” he said. Jason has advocated for new industry rules that would provide greater protection for crypto investors in the short term while supporting the industry's growth.
